Spring Planning and Outdoor Spaces
The weather is warming and the mountains are snowcapped in our corner of Montana. With spring heading our way, the SAGE Design team is keeping busy and looking forward to the new season.
The catalogs we have been combing through while dreaming of what we’ll add to our spring gardens are a little worn from turned back pages. Seeds have been ordered or purchased and are ready for early planting. A visit to the garden center reveals greenhouses waiting to burst with color.
Spring is like a blank canvas ready for us to add a touch here or there, or simply create a new flower bed and start over. We can focus not only on our gardens this time of year, but the planning of our outdoor rooms as well. Whether it’s the screened-in porch that can be used for three seasons or one which welcomes guests to sit and visit for a while during the warm summer nights as a fire blazes in the outdoor hearth.
Fresh flowers and plants in creative containers play a big part in expanding our living spaces. Now is the time to begin scouring the flea markets and antique shops for vintage containers, wicker furniture, and a variety of benches—we love benches for outdoor spaces.
We are always on the hunt for great baskets and troughs so we can get creative with potted plants, ivy, fresh cut flowers, and bird’s nests—lots and lots of bird’s nests. One of our designers uses them in arrangements, wreaths, centerpieces, and lamp swags throughout the year. She picks them up in all sizes whenever she can find them.
While we eagerly await our gardens to spring into their full glory, we spend these transitional weeks from winter to spring planning and dreaming of what’s to come.
